Frequently asked questions

What is SOC 2 and who needs it?

SOC 2 is an auditing framework from the AICPA. It reports on how a service provider protects customer data. US enterprise buyers commonly require it from SaaS vendors, and UK and European buyers increasingly ask for it too.

What's the difference between SOC 2 Type I and Type II?

Type I tests whether your controls are designed properly at a single point in time. Type II tests whether they operated effectively over an observation period, usually 3–12 months. Type II carries more weight with enterprise buyers.

How long does it take to get a SOC 2 report?

Readiness takes 4–6 weeks with NodeForce, after which your auditor issues a Type I report. Type II needs an observation period of at least 3 months, so the report follows once that period ends.

How much does SOC 2 cost for a UK startup?

Our fixed fee starts from £9,599 for Type I readiness. Type II support and observation starts from £15,499. The CPA audit fee is separate and varies by auditor and scope. Compliance automation software is also an additional cost.

Should we start with Type I or go straight to Type II?

Many companies get a Type I report first to unblock deals quickly while the Type II observation period runs. If a prospect specifically requires Type II, we plan the observation window from day one.

Which SOC 2 Trust Services Criteria do we need?

Security is mandatory. Availability, Confidentiality, Processing Integrity and Privacy are optional. Most SaaS companies start with Security, Availability and Confidentiality, and we scope this around your customers' requirements.

Can a UK company get a SOC 2 report?

Yes. SOC 2 is not limited to US companies. It is issued by a licensed CPA firm and accepted worldwide. Many UK SaaS companies hold SOC 2 reports.

Do you perform the SOC 2 audit?

No. SOC 2 reports must be issued by an independent CPA firm. We prepare you, manage the auditor relationship and keep the process efficient.

What is the difference between SOC 2 and ISO 27001?

SOC 2 is an attestation report that US buyers expect. ISO 27001 is an internationally recognised certification. The controls overlap significantly, so if you already hold one, the other is typically faster.

See our ISO 27001 service
Do we need Vanta, Drata or Secureframe for SOC 2?

Not strictly, but automation makes evidence collection for Type II much easier. We set up and map controls in whichever platform you choose.

Do SOC 2 reports expire?

A SOC 2 report covers a defined period, and buyers typically expect a new report every 12 months.

How do we know the report is credible?

Our audits are run by senior GRC specialists and the reports map directly to the AICPA Trust Services Criteria, so buyers can rely on the findings without chasing clarifications.
